YWFP donates to Makumbaya LBSTuesday, May 05, 2009 The Yagana World Foundation for the Poor (YWFP), last Wednesday, donated valuable school materials to the Makumbaya Lower Basic School at a ceremony held at Makumbaya village, Western Region. Among the items donated to the school are desks, one set of computer, one complete set of football jersey, footballs, shoes, books and stationery, school bags, caps, toys, clothes, prayer mats, among other things. YWFP is a non-profit organisation based in Holland. It is an organisation that focuses its support on agriculture, health and education for the needy and less-privileged people in society. Dine-Marie Langereis who personally, with members of YWFP distributed some of the materials among their sponsored and other students of the school, she is delighted with the progress of the students of the school. She said it is the intention of Yagana World Foundation to do more not only for the students but for the whole community of Makumbaya and its environs. Lamin Janneh, operation manager of YWFP, thanked the school authorities and the community for accepting the organisation into their midst. He said the organisation has been extending their gestures to the people of The Gambia for the past 9 years in some key areas. He said it is their hope that the eleven children under their sponsorship in the school be able to continue so that their sponsorship could go beyond the present level. He recognised efforts of Dine-Marie Langereis and her husband who is the brain behind this gesture. The Alkalo of Makumbaya, Kebba Kujabi, applauded the YWFP gesture. He thanked the organisation for everything they have done including supporting their football team. Alkalo Kujabi then prayed that their sponsoring of students goes beyond eleven students. Alkalo Kebba Kujabi further implored on them to extend their gesture to the other villages associated with Makumbaya. Alfusaine Ceesay, chairman, Parent Teachers Association, extended the school, parents and community’s appreciation to the organisation. He said they have done great by giving them what they needed but could not afford. He added that it might be too small to the organisation, but to the school and entire community, it is a big support. Mass E Cham, the headmaster of the school gave the vote of thanks. He noted that this is not the first time the organisation is assisting the school. Yagana World Foundation for the Poor also extended their gesture to the Imam and Alkalo of Makumbaya.
